Dr. Albert G. Ballert
Director of Research, Emeritus
aballert@glc.org

Ballert joined the Commission in 1956, a few months after its formation. He authors the Great Lakes Research Checklist, a bibliography of Great Lakes-related publications. Other research activities include assembling data and reporting on Great Lakes-overseas vessel traffic and ports of call, and the traffic flow of coal, iron ore and grain on the Great Lakes. His files include current data on Great Lakes water levels and precipitation.

Ballert received a doctorate from the University of Chicago and a master's degree from Syracuse University, both in geography.
