John Hummer joined the Commission staff in 2001. He manages several wetlands and ecosystem monitoring coordination projects, including the Great Lakes Coastal Wetlands Consortium and Lake Michigan Monitoring Coordination Council, among other responsibilities.

Hummer holds a master's degree in resource development from Michigan State University with a dual emphasis in natural resources policy and planning and community and economic development. He has a bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University in broadcasting and marketing. Hummer previously worked under a partnership with Michigan State University Extension as director of a northern Michigan watershed organization and has past experience in both the print and broadcast media.
