The Member State of Minnesota
Since 1955, Minnesota has been a valued member of the Great Lakes Commission, and Minnesota personnel have been very active participants in efforts to promote regional economic development and environmental quality. Minnesota supports the Great Lakes Commission through the active involvement of its delegation; the appointment of state officials to task forces; as well as other contributions to regional initiatives.
Minnesota, along with the other member states, pays dues to the Great Lakes Commission with funds appropriated through its state legislature. The state's return on investment far exceeds its annual dues. Minnesota not only realizes monetary benefits, but also enjoys the benefits resulting from regional cooperation in promoting sound public policy on an array of regional economic development, environmental protection and resource management initiatives.
