Introduction
As part of the Great Lakes Regional Air Toxic Emissions Inventory project, AirMapper is the first in a series of applications that will improve access and understanding of toxic air emissions in the Great Lakes basin.

Based on Internet GIS (Geographic Information System) technology, AirMapper enables visitors to "view" emissions from the Inventory project in a totally new way. Users are now able to create interactive maps based upon the selection of specific pollutants. Once a map has been made, users can zoom in and move around to locate emissions at the county level or create a new map with a different pollutant.

Overview
Currently, AirMapper is featuring data from the 1993 regional inventory. There are 39 toxins available to choose from. In addition, there are five functions that allow users to interact within the map:

Zoom In - This function will zoom in and recenter on a selected point.
Zoom Out - This function will zoom out and recenter on a selected point.
Full Extent - The map will return to the original scale showing the entire region.
Pan - When zoomed in, this function will recenter the map on a selected point.
Identify - This function will return the county name and pollutant amount from a selection.

The 1993 inventory was the first binational inventory of toxic air emissions for the Great Lakes region.
