Position available: Watershed Management Specialist The Great Lakes Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Watershed Management Specialist. The position involves project management and support for watershed management, volunteer monitoring, and other collaborative resource management activities in the Great Lakes region. The ideal candidate will have outstanding communications skills; research and technical expertise; experience with collaborative resource management, policy development and stakeholder coordination; and a solid background in water quality programs and policies in the Great Lakes region. The position is a full time, renewable 12-month appointment. The Great Lakes Commission offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package that includes (among others) medical, dental and optical insurance. The Commission also has an outstanding retirement program through TIAA-CREF.
Responsibilities
Potential topical areas include but are not limited to watershed management; volunteer monitoring; wetlands monitoring; ecological restoration; land use and nonpoint source pollution control; data use and exchange; organizational capacity building; and outreach and education for local resource protection groups. This position is based in the Great Lakes Commission offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is affiliated with the Commission’s Environmental Quality Program Area. Qualifications Required qualifications include Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in fields related to water resources/environmental management policy or science. Desired qualifications include experience with watershed management and monitoring; data/information management skills; proven written and oral communications skills; the ability to manage multiple projects; meeting design and facilitation skills; experience working with agency staff and stakeholders; demonstrated research and analytical skills; and grant writing/program development experience. GIS and web development skills and a familiarity with Great Lakes management programs and policies a plus.
