Position available: Geographic Information Systems / Database Specialist The Great Lakes Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) / Database Specialist. The position involves developing and maintaining GIS databases and Internet mapping applications associated with the Great Lakes Information Network (GLIN, www.great-lakes.net) web portal, and providing technical assistance to a variety of Commission projects. The individual will work collaboratively with Commission staff, members, and partner agencies and organizations. The position is a full time, renewable 12-month appointment. The Great Lakes Commission offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package that includes (among others) medical, dental and optical insurance. The Commission also has an outstanding pension plan through the TIAA-CREF program.
Responsibilities
This position is based in the Great Lakes Commission offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is affiliated with the Commission’s Data and Information Management Program.

The Commission consists of state legislators, agency officials, and governors' appointees from its eight member states. Associate membership for Ontario and Québec was established through the signing of a "Declaration of Partnership." The Commission maintains a formal Observer program involving U.S. and Canadian federal agencies, tribal authorities, binational agencies and other regional interests.
