Statement by Commission Chairman Gov. Pat Quinn on appointment of Cameron Davis as Great Lakes Senior Advisor

On June 3, Cameron Davis, president and CEO of the Alliance for the Great Lakes, was appointed as Senior Advisor on the Great Lakes to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson. In this position, Davis will help guide the recently announced Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, supported by the Obama Administration and led by U.S. EPA. Davis has been a tireless Great Lakes advocate for the majority of his 25-year career.

“The Great Lakes Commission wholeheartedly supports the appointment of Cameron Davis as Senior Advisor on the Great Lakes. Mr. Davis will do an outstanding job ensuring that the region’s voice is heard in Washington. The Great Lakes Commission is eager to work in partnership with Mr. Davis and U.S. EPA as we turn our plans into real, on-the-ground changes to protect and restore the Great Lakes.”

The Great Lakes Commission, chaired by Gov. Patrick Quinn (Ill.), is an interstate compact agency established under state and U.S. federal law and dedicated to promoting a strong economy, healthy environment and high quality of life for the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region and its residents. The Commission consists of governors' appointees, state legislators, and agency officials from its eight member states. Associate membership for Ontario and Québec was established through the signing of a "Declaration of Partnership." The Commission maintains a formal Observer program involving U.S. and Canadian federal agencies, tribal authorities, binational agencies and other regional interests. The Commission offices are located in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
