Welcome to the Eastern Great Lakes Region of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.

Overview:

The Eastern Great Lakes Region (EGLR) of ASPRS is an active group of highly professional government, academic, private sector and interested parties from the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, the State of Ohio and northern Pennsylvania who are dedicated to advancing knowledge, skills and capabilities in applying mapping sciences and information management techniques within the region. The EGLR-ASPR works collaboratively with adjacent regions and Canadian colleagues to promote Society goals and objectives across the Great Lakes and Ohio River watersheds of the United States. The EGLR-ASPRS is home to many leading Sustaining Members of the Society, highly respected academic instituions with tremendous technological expertise and dedicated governmental organizations that rely upon photogrammetry and remote sensing. The EGLR-ASPRS also puts a significant premium on advancing our student chapters to promote long-term sustainability of the Society within the region.

  • 3001, Inc. and Collaborators Start Massive Aerial Mapping Project

3001, Inc. today announced an award by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) office of Customs and Border Protection (CPB) for the collection of aerial data over the U.S./Canada and Mexico borders. For this vast project, 3001 has assembled a large team of aerial data collection companies, with a combined fleet of fifteen airborne sensors, including the Leica Airborne Digital Sensor and the Zeiss/Intergraph Digital Mapping Camera. All of the Great Lakes shoreline, including the interconnecting waterways (but excluding Lake Michigan since it is not a binational lake), will have imagery collected this summer. Nominal coverage will be up to 20 miles inland from the shore. For further information, see: www.3001inc.com/GeoHome/news.asp.

  • New Officers Elected
The EGLR will be lead over the next year by very qualified members. Congratulations are extended to: Jason Heywood (Aerocom Photogrammetric Services) who will move up to the Presidency; Dr. Robert Burtch (Ferris State University) who will assume the Vice President/President Elect position; George Leshkevich (NOAA Great Lake Environmental Research Laboratory who will continue as the Secretary/Treasurer; Colin Brooks (Michigan Tech Research Institute), Greg Lemke (Air Land Surveys) and Carolyn Merry (The Ohio State University) all assuming two-year terms as Regional Directors; and Roger Gauthier (Great Lakes Commission) who will move to the Past President position. When you see them, congratulate them and thank them for keeping the regional chapter strong.

The EGLR will also be conducting another election over the next month to select a three-year term for a National Director and will fill one other Regional Director position.

  • EGLR Wins "Web Site of Year"
The EGLR web site that you are currently viewing was selected by the National ASPRS powers-to-be as the "2007 Regional Web Site of the Year!" Congratulations should go out to the EGLR Officers for their insight and to Roger Gauthier and Great Lakes Commission staff for their commitment to this product. If you have any suggestions on improvements that should be made to this site, please send them onto: gauthier@glc.org. We want to retain this distinction next year!

  • EGLR Donates to ASPRS Awards Fund
The Eastern Great Lakes Region has donated $500 to the ASPRS Award Endowment Fund in the name of Talbott Abrams, the founder of Abrams Aerial Surveys of Lansing, MI.

  • EGLR Supports MichiganView Application
The Eastern Great Lakes Region has gone on record supporting an application made by Michigan Technological University Research Institute to form a state chapter under the U.S. Geological Survey's AmericaView Program. If funded, the MichiganView initiative will work towards developing a comprehensive cataloguing service of spaceborne and aerial imagery that could be shared by users managing Michigan's resources.
