Welcome to the Eastern Great Lakes Region of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
The Eastern Great Lakes Region (EGLR) of ASPRS is an active group of highly professional government, academic, private sector and interested parties from the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, the State of Ohio and northern Pennsylvania who are dedicated to advancing knowledge, skills and capabilities in applying mapping sciences and information management techniques within the region. The EGLR-ASPR works collaboratively with adjacent regions and Canadian colleagues to promote Society goals and objectives across the Great Lakes and Ohio River watersheds of the United States. The EGLR-ASPRS is home to many leading Sustaining Members of the Society, highly respected academic instituions with tremendous technological expertise and dedicated governmental organizations that rely upon photogrammetry and remote sensing. - 3001, Inc. and Collaborators Start Massive Aerial Mapping Project
3001, Inc. today announced an award by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) to support the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) office of Customs and Border Protection (CPB) for the collection of aerial data over the U.S./Canada and Mexico borders. For this vast project, 3001 has assembled a large team of aerial data collection companies, with a combined fleet of fifteen airborne sensors, including the Leica Airborne Digital Sensor and the Zeiss/Intergraph Digital Mapping Camera. All of the Great Lakes shoreline, including the interconnecting waterways (but excluding Lake Michigan since it is not a binational lake), will have imagery collected this summer. Nominal coverage will be up to 20 miles inland from the shore. For further information, see: www.3001inc.com/GeoHome/news.asp.

- ELGR Wins National Honors
During the ASPRS 2009 Annual Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, the EGLR was recognized as the Second Honorable Mention for Region of the Year, Second Place for Regional Newsletter and Third Place for Regional Website of the Year. Much credit for these recognitions should be directed toward Jason Heywood for his regional leadership last year, to Sherry McGartland (BAE Systems) for her tireless work on compiling the newsletter and for the quality work provided by the Great Lakes Commission for maintaining the region's web pages.
- Dr. Carolyn Merry Elected to National ASPRS President-Elect Position
Congratulations are offered to Dr. Carolyn Merry, the Chair of the Civil, Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Sciences Department at the Ohio State University, who was inducted as the new National ASPRS President-Elect. Dr. Merry has been an ASPRS member since 1975 and has served the Society as Chair of the Publications Committee, Membership Chair for the EGLR and Technical Program Co-Chair for the 2007 ASPRS/CRSS Fall Technical Conference. Currently, in addition to her faculty and chair responsibilities at OSU, Dr. Merry serves as the Director of OSU's Center for Mapping. Dr. Merry
received her BS in Geology from Edinboro University, a MA in Geology from Dartmouth College, and a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland. It is certainly nice to see one of our own regional members taking on broader national roles and responsibilities. Great to see Carolyn!
- EGLR Supports MichiganView Application
The Eastern Great Lakes Region has gone on record supporting an application made by Michigan Technological University Research Institute to form a state chapter under the U.S. Geological Survey's AmericaView Program. If funded, the MichiganView initiative will work towards developing a comprehensive cataloguing service of spaceborne and aerial imagery that could be shared by users managing Michigan's resources.
