Description
The Great Lakes Commission is seeking candidates for the position of Project Manager for the Resource Management Program. The focus of this position will be in the area of Great Lakes water resources policy and management. The individual will be a key member of a multi-disciplinary project team working on the development of a water resources management decision support system for the Great Lakes.

The position is a full time, renewable 12-month appointment. The Great Lakes Commission offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefit package that includes (among others) medical, dental and optical insurance. Responsibilities
Position responsibilities include:

  • Working with Great Lakes Commission members, project partners, and staff on Great Lakes water resources management issues.
  • Participating in the development of a comprehensive water resources management decision support system for the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River system.
  • Serving as the administrative lead on project initiatives including meeting and workshop planning, design and conduct, research and report preparation.
  • Integrating major regional and binational water resources initiatives with project goals.
  • Managing a project web site.
  • Coordinating the activities of a multi-disciplinary project partners including those of a project management team, stakeholders advisory committee, and three technical sub-committees.

This position is based at Great Lakes Commission offices in Ann Arbor, Michigan, located near the University of Michigan campus. Periodic travel throughout the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region is anticipated.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate should have 2-5 years' experience with water resource issues at the local, state, regional or federal levels, working with an agency, as a consultant, in academia or in similar positions with a focus on water resources science, policy and/or management.

Required qualifications include: broad knowledge of water resources issues with some science background; experience with the federal and state legislative and regulatory process; strong administrative and organizational skills, outstanding verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region; familiarity with associated policy, management, and research communities; and knowledge of issues related to the development and implementation of decision support systems. Academic requirements include a relevant graduate or undergraduate degree.
