Great Lakes Navigation Five-Year Development Plan The Five Year Development Plan (FYDP) was developed to guide the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in planning for Great Lakes navigation system needs over a given five-year span, defined in this report as the years 2007-2012.  The intent is to establish a program that thoroughly engages stakeholders and focuses resources on the system's most critical needs in terms of reducing risk and providing optimal reliability.  The goal of the program is to maximize benefits using a cohesive, basin-wide approach and then to structure funding requirements accordingly. Published by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 2006.

Great Lakes Fact Sheets   The U.S. Army Corps' Great Lakes Navigation Team has created draft Project Fact Sheets for key harbors on the Great Lakes. The Fact Sheets include information on key harbor features, project needs, including dredging, consequences of not maintaining the project, and the importance of the project to transportation. Published by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 2006.

Testing and Evaluating Dredged Material for Upland Beneficial Uses: A Regional Framework for the Great Lakes This document offers a step-by-step guide to identifying upland beneficial use opportunities, evaluating suitability, and implementation using a risk-based approach. Eight different upland beneficial use scenarios are evaluated with tables comparing relevant state contaminant criteria. Published by the Great Lakes Commission, 2004.

Annotated Bibliography for Upland Testing and Evaluation The annotated bibliography serves as a companion document to the Regional Framework document. It includes all the references cited in the framework and many additional ones that might be useful in evaluating dredged material for beneficial uses. Published by the Great Lakes Commission, 2004

Waste To Resource: Beneficial Use of Great Lakes Dredged Material This 16-page full-color booklet answers common questions about Great Lakes dredged material and its use for productive purposes. It includes case studies and a map of different types of beneficial use projects around the Great Lakes. Published by the Great Lakes Commission. August 2001.

Great Lakes Dredging Booklet This is a full-color, illustrated booklet that highlights issues such as the beneficial use of dredged material, the role of sedimentation, the dredging connection with commercial navigation and the citizen's role in the dredging process. A product of the Great Lakes Dredging Team. October 1999.

Decisionmaking Process for Dredged Material Management
This document developed by the Great Lakes Dredging Team describes the decision making process used by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to determine the appropriate method(s) for management of dredged material from federal navigation projects. It also describes the key environmental laws and regulations involved in this process, and the responsibilities of other federal and state resource agencies and local proponents in this decision making process. A flow chart (pdf) provides a visual overview of the decisionmaking process for dredged material management, including the agencies and legislative authorities involved. January, 1999.

Living with the Lakes Great Lakes boaters and shoreline property owners have seen dramatic lake level fluctuations in recent years. What causes these fluctuations? Can anyone predict when the current low levels will rise? Can lake levels be controlled? How can shoreline property be protected? Dozens of experts in hydrology, lake level modeling, coastal management, engineering and resource policy answer these and other questions in Living with the Lakes, a joint product of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Great Lakes Commission. Originally published in November 1999; reprinted in February 2000.
