Coastal Habitat Assessment:

With Recommendations For Conservation and Restoration Planning

The Coastal Habitat Assessment synthesizes socio-economic and ecological data and information compiled between August, 2002 and December, 2004. The assessment focuses on a 10 mile buffer zone around Lake St. Clair. Through a series of modeling efforts based on the latest scientific information, the assessment also includes priority areas for coastal habitat conservation and restoration and guidelines for habitat conservation and restoration. The assessment responds to and builds on the Lake St. Clair Management Plan and other activities to establish binational management goals and objectives for Lake St. Clair.

The Assessment is available for dowload by individual sections or in its entirety (at bottom of page). A limited number of printed are available from the Great Lakes Commission.

The Lake St. Clair Coastal Habitat Project is a two-year cooperative effort (2002-2004) among the Great Lakes Commission, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Michigan Natural Features Inventory with support from NOAA's Coastal Services Center under its Landscape Characterization and Restoration program.
