Resolution: Building Capacity For Leadership

Whereas, the International Association of Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Mayors has, for the last 17 years, served as a forum for discussion and action by mayors and other municipal officials on regional public policy issues; and

Whereas, , the Association has been an effective advocate for laws, programs, policies and other initiatives that promote a healthy environment, prosperous living and high quality of life; and

Whereas, the need for mayoral and municipal leadership and partnership on regional issues and opportunities has never been greater; and

Whereas, mayors and other municipal officials would be well served by an enhanced Association capacity to coordinate, research and advance their shared priorities;

Therefore, be it resolved, that the International Association of Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Mayors agrees to pursue measures to enhance its capacity to provide continuous coordination, policy research and analysis, advocacy and related services to its membership.

Be it Further resolved, that toward this end, the Association initiate a strategic planning process and associated plan of action to identify and pursue the suite of services needed to advance its interests.
