Joint Project Agreement between GLC and NOAA Coastal Services Center

Between 2005 and 2009, the Great Lakes Commission and the NOAA Coastal Services Center engaged in a multi-year joint project focused Coastal Community Development; Data and Information Integration and Dissemination; and Ports and Navigation issues in the Great Lakes.

Links in the shaded bar to the left will take you to other web pages. Links below are to specific documents generated under this joint project.

  • Coastal Smart Growth Elements in Practice - Case Studies from the Great Lakes Region: were selected using 10 coastal and waterfront smart growth elements developed collaboratively by U.S. EPA and NOAA, largely building of the national smart growth elements but with a focus on the unique attributes of coastal areas and communities, such as waterfront revitalization, preserving, and enhancing coastal heritage, public engagement in the application of public trust doctrine, and public access to the water.

  • Great Lakes Coastal Data Model/Framework: focusing on developing a consistent and comprehensive data management structure for coastal geospatial datasets, with emphasis on those used as input for geomorphical process modeling and ecological predictions.

  • The Habitat Priority Planner: Advancing Restoration in the Great Lakes Region: This 2-page fact sheet showcases how the Habitat Priority Planner can be used to support habitat restoration and protection in the Great Lakes region. Two demonstration analyses are highlighted as examples of how the tool can support subregional analysis to identify and prioritize habitat restoration projects based on site-specific factors and individual project objectives as well as regional goals as set forth in the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration Protection and Restoration Strategy (GLRC Strategy).

  • Great Lakes Coastal Management Display: features details of each Great Lakes state coast and coastal program. To use this display, please contact Victoria Pebbles, 734-971-9135, vpebbles@glc.org.
