Bringing it Home:
Lessons from the Field for Making Watershed Management Work

Background
This workshop, designed for community-based watershed professionals, will provide training and written materials on such topics as:

  • Financial management and fundraising;
  • Working with local officials;
  • Land use planning;
  • Integrating watershed planning within a regulatory framework;
  • TMDL development and implementation; and
  • Tools for watershed planning

The workshop will bring together watershed managers, state agency representatives, and regional and national watershed experts to discuss a number of issues critical to watershed management. The workshop format will be open and interactive. Attendees to the workshop will gain access to a number of experienced professionals and other resources, and have a chance to interact with other managers facing similar situations. The workshop agenda is now available.

The workshop is funded through a Clean Water Act, Section 319 grant from Ohio EPA.

Date & Location
The workshop will be held on October 21-22, 2002 at the Deer Creek Resort and Conference Center in Mt. Sterling, Ohio.

A block of hotel rooms has been reserved under the name "Great Lakes Commission." The cost is $75 plus tax for a single room, or $95 plus tax for a double room. Please contact the hotel directly to reserve your room (phone: 740-869-2020).

Cost
The cost for each day of the workshop is $60, which includes instructional materials, continental breakfast and lunch. The cost to attend both days of the workshop is $100. If cost is a prohibitive factor for you, please contact Ric Lawson at rlawson@glc.org or 734-971-9135.

In addition, there are scholarships available to cover up to $100 per watershed organization that has an active coordinator grant from ODNR/OEPA or an active planning grant from Ohio EPA. Please note on the registration form that you are utilizing this scholarship and adjust the registration fee accordingly.

The registration deadline is Tuesday, October 1, 2002. There are currently two options for workshop registration:
