The dam removal and restoration of the Baraboo River was discussed. In the 1990s, only 4 of the 11 dams on the river were left. The removal of these dams was a difficult process. The deciding factor for dam removal was the economics rather than the environmental benefits. Nonetheless, the environmental benefits were strong; the number of fish species in the river increased significantly. Urban
Regeneration of Sheboygan: South Pier Redevelopment
The seven “C”s
of a revitalization project were discussed in the context of Sheboygan’s
South Pier Redevelopment Project: challenge (e.g., developing a problem
statement), champions (e.g., leaders that push the project head, usually
local officials), communication (process must be transparent and inclusive),
consensus, cash, construct and celebrate. Ashland’s
Waterfront Development Efforts: An “Extreme Makeover” in Process
