Little Rapids Restoration Project Completion Celebration

August 24

Please join us to celebrate the completion of the Little Rapids Restoration Project!

August 24 • 1:00 PM • Rotary Park • Sault Ste. Marie, MI  •  View the email invitation

After decades of planning, a project to restore the Little Rapids portion of the St. Marys River has been completed! The Little Rapids Restoration Project constructed a new bridge that reestablishes historic water flow, improves habitat for fish, provides better access for fishing, bird watching, and recreation, and will improve opportunities for tourism in the region.

This $9.4 million project was funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative through a regional partnership between the Great Lakes Commission and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and was implemented locally by the Chippewa County Road Commission. The celebration event will include U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman (R-MI-1), Jon Allan, chair of the Great Lakes Commission, and other local leaders. Light refreshments will be served. Immediately following the event please join us for a tour of the restoration project.
