SUMMARY:Society for Freshwater Science Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Please join the Society for Freshwater Science for our first ever virtual meeting! We are enthusiastic about hosting a program focused on the theme of transformation. In freshwater science\, many of us study transformations that happen in nature\, such as nutrient cycles\, animal life histories\, river channel geomorphology\, and more. With all of the challenges in 2020\, SFS as a society is clearly facing a time of dramatic transformations. The SFS 2021 Meeting Program Committee embraces and welcomes changes in our scientific society as we transform in ways that make our scientific society more inclusive\, equitable\, and better able to respond to the many freshwater challenges facing the world. \nEvent website: https://sfsannualmeeting.org/index.cfm  \nEmail: sfsmembership@usu.edu\nPhone: (435) 797-0526

SUMMARY:Great Lakes Connecting Waters: Informational Webinar by the IJC Science Advisory Board
DESCRIPTION:The Great Lakes are connected together by rivers\, straits and a fluvial lake\, or “connecting waters.” These waterways are unique\, dynamic and vulnerable ecosystems distinct from the lakes. However\, there are fewer surveillance and monitoring activities on these “connecting waters” than on the lakes. \nThis webinar will present a summary of the findings and recommendations of the International Joint Commission Great Lakes Science Advisory Board-Research Coordination Committee’s recent report\, “Monitoring Infrastructure and Activities of Great Lakes Connecting Waters: An Assessment and Recommendations.” The webinar will begin at 11:00 am ET with a 30 minute presentation by expert board members followed by 30 minutes of audience Q&A. Advance registration is required: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_DAroioJjQl6SgBFC3WJ9Tg \nThe report is available at: https://ijc.org/en/sab/monitoring-great-lakes-connecting-waters \nEvent website: https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_DAroioJjQl6SgBFC3WJ9Tg\nContact:  Allison Voglesong Zejnati\, Public Affairs Specialist Contractor\, International Joint Commission Great Lakes Regional Office\nEmail: allison.voglesong-zejnati@ijc.org

SUMMARY:U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Avian Radar Decision Support Tool - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) with funding from Great Lakes Restoration Initiative\, implemented the Avian Radar Project to better understand bird and bat activity throughout the Great Lakes Basin. The Service collected radar and bat acoustic data during spring and fall from 2011 – 2018\, identifying areas that are predicted to have high migratory bird and bat use. This data was used to create predicted activity maps that have been incorporated into a decision support tool (DST). The Great Lakes Airspace Map DST allows users to overlay bird and bat activity maps with other publically available or project maps to help resource managers\, agencies\, and funders make on-the-ground natural resource decisions. In this webinar we present the Great Lakes Airspace Map DST and demonstrate its use for conservation decisions. \nEvent website: https://www.fws.gov/radar/index.html\nContact: Jennifer White\, Biologist\, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service\nEmail: jennifer_white@fws.gov\nPhone: (612) 258-8734

SUMMARY:Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation Biennial Conference
DESCRIPTION:The theme of the 26th Biennial Coastal and Estuarine Research Federation (CERF) Biennial Conference is “CERF at 50: Celebrating Our Past\, Charting Our Future.” The 2021 conference will be a momentous occasion in CERF’s history\, as it will be our 50th anniversary meeting. \nAs CERF turns golden\, we have a unique opportunity to reflect on our rich history as a society\, the past 50 years of estuarine and coastal research\, and successes in translating that science into effective management\, education\, and outreach. More importantly\, 2021 offers us the opportunity to pivot from that history by looking ahead to the next 50 years of coastal science and management\, identifying the grand challenges we face in the coming decades\, and looking for solutions to address them. \nEvent website: https://conference.cerf.science/about-the-cerf-2021-conference-theme\nEmail: info@cerf.science\nPhone: (206) 209-5262
