SUMMARY:Crude Oil Transport Webinar Series: Oil Spill Response Capability for Heavy Oil Products
DESCRIPTION:The movement of crude oil through the Great Lakes basin and other critical northern watersheds presents a complex suite of opportunities and risks for the region. In partnership with the Great Lakes Commission and International Joint Commission\, a network of Sea Grant professionals from throughout the Great Lakes region have assembled to provide stakeholders with risk-related resources on economic and environmental issues associated with transportation of crude oil in the Laurentian-Great Lakes basin and to create a forum to share knowledge\, concerns\, challenges\, and progress. \nThe Crude Oil Transport webinar series is meant to provide the latest research and resources to stakeholders in the region to inform decision-making around this complex issue. Anyone with a vested interest in how crude oil and associated products move throughout the region will find the content informative. \nFeatured speaker: Bill Hazel\, Vice President of Marine Services for Marine Pollution Control in Detroit\, MI \nEvent website: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/1126634782b72f1634538d7d4481ef37\nContact: Mark Breederland\, Michigan Sea Grant Extension Educator\, (231) 922-4628\, breederl@msu.edu\nContact: Mark Malchoff\, Lake Champlain Sea Grant\, Aquatic Resources Specialist\, (518) 564-3037\, Mark.Malchoff@plattsburgh.edu

SUMMARY:Adaptation Resources for Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Adaptation Resources for Agriculture: A tool for assisting agriculture producers in adapting to climate variability and change: Tune in to this month’s webinar and hear from Mike Wilson\, Senior Scientist at NRCS and one of the authors of Adaptation Resources for Agriculture\, a publication by the USDA Climate Hubs (USDA Hubs Publication). \nThe workbook is designed to allow extension specialists\, technical service providers\, and others to guide producers through a five-step process to better understand the short and long-term impacts of climate on their production system and how they can meet their land management goals while considering climate variability. Processes in this workbook are key to creating an open dialogue for discussing producer motivations and developing an action-based response. Mike will overview the purpose of the publication\, how the workbook was developed\, and the framework of actions that help agricultural communities prepare for changing conditions. \nEvent website: https://northcentralclimate.org/webinars/\nContact: Anne Nardi\nEmail: anne.nardi@wisc.edu

SUMMARY:Healthy Port Futures: Research and Implementation of Passive Sediment Management Techniques
DESCRIPTION:The Healthy Port Futures project is a research and implementation project that explores the potential role of passive and adaptive sediment management strategies for ports in the Great Lakes Basin.  The project views sediment as a resource\, the material in which to build ecologically and socially-valuable landscapes\, and sediment management as a process in which to design and create these landscapes. \nHealthy Port Future stresses the use of natural systems in the sediment management process\, typically replacing or augmenting one of its three phases—uplift\, transport and/or placement—in order to improve the function\, experience\, and complexity of these places over time. \nThe presentation will walk through the process\, methods\, and initial outcomes of this project\, looking specifically at one of the pilot projects underway in the state of Ohio. Presenters: Theresa Ruswick\, Healthy Port Futures; Nathan Holliday\, Anchor QEA. \nThe Interagency Ecological Restoration Quality Committee hosts monthly Webinars in an effort to bring restoration practitioners from across the country together to present and discuss the innovations aimed at improving the quality of ecological restoration data. Presentations are approximately 45 minutes in length\, followed by open discussion. \nThe U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Great Lakes National Program Office established this Committee (including federal agencies\, contractors\, and ecological restoration practitioners) in June 2012 to share and develop quality practices that facilitate collection of reliable data for ecological restoration projects funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. \nEvent website: https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/4616614427954214913\nContact: Lou Blume\, USEPA Quality Manager\nEmail: Blume.Louis@epa.gov \n
