Great Lakes Wind Collaborative 5th Annual Meeting, Sept. 25-26 in Erie, Pa

Ann Arbor, Mich. – The Great Lakes Wind Collaborative (GLWC) – the leading source of information on windpower in the binational Great Lakes region – will be visiting Erie, Pa., later this month to host its 5th Annual Meeting, Sept. 25-26 at the Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel.

Featured speakers and topics include:

  • Michael Krancer, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection: Importance of Sustaining Momentum for Wind Power in the Great Lakes Region
  • Eric Thumma, Iberdrola Renewables: Wind Markets and Project Development
  • Ed DeMeo, Renewable Energy Consulting Services: Renewable Electricity Futures (REF) Study
  • Christy Omohundro, American Wind Energy Association: The U.S. Windpower Industry: What Lies Ahead

This year’s program features sessions jam-packed with the latest information on wind power in the Great Lakes region, including: Great Lakes Wind: The Big Picture; Wind, Wildlife, Birds and Fisheries: The Latest; Public Engagement, Education and Outreach Strategies; Great Lakes Offshore Wind: What’s on the Horizon?; and a special session on the Wind Economy and the Supply Chain, coordinated in concert with the Global Wind Network (GLWN).

The GLWC’s 5th Annual Meeting brings together representatives of U.S. and Canadian federal agencies, state/provincial and local governments, the wind industry, electric utilities, nonprofit organizations, academia and other interested stakeholders to discuss these and other issues regarding the sustainable development of wind energy in the binational Great Lakes region.

The Great Lakes Commission, chaired by Kenneth G. Johnson, water division administrator at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, is an interstate compact agency established under state and U.S. federal law and dedicated to promoting a strong economy, healthy environment and high quality of life for the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence region and its residents. The Commission consists of governors’ appointees, state legislators, and agency officials from its eight member states. Associate membership for Ontario and Québec was established through the signing of a “Declaration of Partnership.” The Commission maintains a formalObserver program involving U.S. and Canadian federal agencies, tribal authorities, binational agencies and other regional interests.
