Eric Brown – Senior Advisor for External Relations

Eric Brown leads the Commission’s external relations program, working with elected and appointed officials and with key agencies and organizations at the state, local, and federal levels. Brown is closely integrated with Commission’s policy and communications teams and works to enhance collaboration with policymakers and stakeholders from throughout the Great Lakes Basin.

Prior to joining the Commission, Brown lived and worked in Washington, D.C., filling roles for a governor, a member of Congress, and a private sector lobbying firm. Throughout these roles, Brown was a key figure in efforts to protect the environmental and economic health of the Great Lakes region. Brown has a long history of convening state, provincial, and congressional leadership to build consensus around difficult issues, including ballast water standards, maritime transportation infrastructure investment, and invasive species management.

He has a bachelor’s degree in political theory and constitutional democracy from Michigan State University’s James Madison College and lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with his wife and their two children.
