Nicole Zacharda joined the Commission staff in 2016 after a lengthy career in state government. She leads the GLC’s water quality and infrastructure team and coordinates the Blue Accounting initiative.  While Nicole will always be a farm kid at heart, she and her husband reside in Ann Arbor with their two mostly-charming cats. Her career began through Michigan State University’s Honors College with a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies and applications with concentrations in community resource development and environmental economics. Sixteen years with Michigan’s environmental agency (then known as the Department of Environmental Quality) provided ample opportunity to hone skills in negotiation, collaboration, and leading teams that transfer well to the multi-jurisdiction sphere of the GLC and its work.
