About 213 acres along Lake Superior in Wisconsin’s Iron County have been permanently protected and transferred to the National Park Service to improve and expand the North Country National Scenic Trail, the nation’s longest national scenic trail. The acquisition will allow roughly three miles of the trail to be moved off roads and into scenic natural areas featuring shoreline views, waterfalls, and historic cultural sites near the Wisconsin–Michigan border.
