U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Avian Radar Decision Support Tool – Webinar

November 4, 2021

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) with funding from Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, implemented the Avian Radar Project to better understand bird and bat activity throughout the Great Lakes Basin. The Service collected radar and bat acoustic data during spring and fall from 2011 – 2018, identifying areas that are predicted to have high migratory bird and bat use. This data was used to create predicted activity maps that have been incorporated into a decision support tool (DST). The Great Lakes Airspace Map DST allows users to overlay bird and bat activity maps with other publically available or project maps to help resource managers, agencies, and funders make on-the-ground natural resource decisions. In this webinar we present the Great Lakes Airspace Map DST and demonstrate its use for conservation decisions.
