Urging Congress to take action on key legislative priorities for the Great Lakes
We recently wrote members of the Great Lakes congressional delegation to urge them to take action on key priorities for the Great Lakes before the 114th Congress is adjourned. With 90% of our nation’s supply of fresh surface water, the Great Lakes are a natural treasure and vital economic asset. The priorities we listed are vital for helping to restore the Great Lakes, protect drinking water, create jobs, stimulate economic development and strengthen our waterfront communities.
As Congress finishes its work in coming months, we called on them to:
- Pass bipartisan legislation authorizing the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative
- Provide funding for vital Great Lakes programs
- Include Great Lakes priorities in the Water Resources Development Act
- Pass the Great Lakes Fishery Research Authorization Act
- Support House passage of the Waterfront Community Revitalization and Resiliency Act
