Great Lakes Commission Legislative Priorities for FY 2013
Presented to the 112th Congress, second session: February 2012
Great Lakes Commission Legislative Priorities for FY2013
Priorities for Advancing Great Lakes Restoration and Economic Revitalization
The Great Lakes are a unique natural resource and a vital
asset for our regional economy. They provide important benefits to more than 36 million Americans and Canadians who live in the region, including transportation of goods and people; water for industries; drinking water for communities; recreation for local citizens and tourists; and a vibrant ecosystem for diverse communities of plants and animals.
The Great Lakes states are partnering closely with the federal government to restore the Great
Lakes and leverage them as an asset to build a more prosperous future for our region. Toward
this end, the Great Lakes Commission urges Congress and the Administration to support these
regional priorities that are vital for the health and economic vitality of our region.
Advancing Great Lakes Restoration and Economic Revitalization
Near-term priorities have been identified by an alliance that includes the Great Lakes Commission, the mayors of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative, the Healing Our Waters® - Great Lakes Coalition, the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, the Chippewa Ottawa Resource Authority, the Council of Great Lakes Industries and the Great Lakes Metro Chambers Coalition.
