Ice coverage on Lake Superior is at about 3%, making it the lowest recorded coverage since the federal government began measuring it in 1973. The Superior Watershed Partnership says the lack of ice has possible impacts on fish populations come spring, specifically for hatchlings that will not be protected from powerful waves that can wash eggs away.
