Beth Wanamaker – Communications Director

Beth Wanamaker leads communications for the Great Lakes Commission. She works to increase visibility of the agency as a trusted, nonpartisan leader on Great Lakes–St. Lawrence River Basin issues among policymakers, partners, media, and the interested public; and supports the policy and program teams by clearly communicating research, recommendations, and other deliverables.

Beth previously served as press secretary for U.S. Senator Mark R. Warner in Washington, D.C., and managed communications for the Government Accountability Project, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting the rights of whistleblowers.

Beth is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan and holds a master’s degree in multimedia journalism from Boston University. She lives in Ann Arbor with her partner and two small children, and enjoys hiking, birdwatching, reading, and playing pickleball (badly but enthusiastically) in her free time.
