The 2018 Great Lakes Areas of Concern Conference is convened by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The conference provides an opportunity for attendees to discuss the program's work and accomplishments, to connect with a wide variety of partners, and to continue making progress.

Take a virtual tour with The Nature Conservancy in Michigan and Chris May, Restoration Ecologist, as he tells the story of some of our most special places and the techniques used to restore and protect them.

Michigan Water School helps elected and appointed officials increase their knowledge about water management and gain access to tools and resources to help impact their local economy. Water School features both in-class presentations and interactive learning demonstrations along with a field-tour. The program includes sessions on water quantity, quality, economics, finance, and planning, and water policy issues.

The Great Lakes Hydrilla Collaborative Technical Webinar Series continues as Dr. Rob Richardson of North Carolina State University presents on Monoecious Hydrilla Biology and Implications for Management. Dr. Richardson will provide specific examples as to how the biology of monoecious hydrilla shapes management programs. We will have an approximately 40-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute question and answer session.

The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative's Annual Meeting and Conference brings together stakeholders (municipal, federal, state, provincial, tribal/First Nations/Metis, NGOs, private, academic) from the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence region to share best practices, discuss shared issues and move forward the protection and restoration of the resource.

NC3 is hosting bimonthly webinars on climate, water, and agriculture throughout 2018. The next webinar is Monday, June 25th and will feature Tonya Haigh of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Haigh will present the results from a recent survey administered to farmers and farm advisors across the US Corn Belt exploring climate services and the public and private pathways to farm decision-making.

Invasive aquatic plants and animals introduced through trade channels pose a significant threat to natural ecosystems. Invasive organisms can be released into waterways or escape from private ponds and water gardens. The U.S. Brig NIAGARA Environmental Science Field School is a multi-disciplinary experience incorporating marine sciences, underwater archaeology, and square-rig seamanship, and in past years has contributed leading-edge research on micro-bead pollution in the Great Lakes. The program takes place on the U.S. Brig NIAGARA, a reconstructed nineteenth-century sailing ship, owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and operated as a sailing school vessel. Discover how our Great Lakes fisheries (past, present, and future) can benefit local museum programs, enhance coastal tourism development opportunities, and support community development efforts. Learn more about Michigan's Great Lakes Fisheries Heritage Consortium projects and partnerships, including current partnerships in fostering a regional fisheries heritage trail website. This year’s conference will serve to unveil a new Great Lakes Fisheries Heritage Trail website; and explore technology and online opportunities to better connect local fisheries heritage among Great Lakes-wide audiences. Participants will learn to archive, share and connect work in their local communities, museums, and libraries with others across the state.

On September 14, 2018, the inaugural Ohio Public Interest Environmental Law Conference will occur at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. The Ohio Public Interest Environmental Law Conference will kickstart a distinctly Ohioan conversation to discuss controversial and complicated state and national environmental concerns.

The Great Lakes Hydrilla Collaborative Technical Webinar Series continues on Tuesday, September 25 from 2:00pm-3:00pm EDT. Mark Warman, Hydrilla Project Coordinator with the Cleveland Metroparks, will present "A Hydrilla Project in Ohio’s Lake Erie Basin: Detection, Control and Prevention."

Help restore and protect the Huron River in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and have a good time! Volunteer with other citizen scientists of all ages and experience levels to collect all kinds of river bugs and creatures. Pollution-sensitive creatures help determine the health of the Huron River and steer action to restore and protect it.
