Great Lakes Calendar

Launched in 2015, the Forum is the only binational conference in the Great Lakes Region that brings all levels government together with business, academia, and the non-profit sector to co-design new ways of positioning the Region to compete in today’s globalized economy while enhancing the well-being of the Region’s citizens and protecting the Great Lakes for future generations.

The Huron River Watershed Council, Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, and Huron Pines, all Healthy Watershed Consortium grantees, are partnering to host a Great Lakes Regional Watershed Protection Summit on Tuesday, May 7 in Detroit, MI.

The Great Lakes Seminar Series Spring Lecture is entitled "Great Lakes Water Tension in the 21st Century," featuring Peter Annin. Peter Annin is the director of the Mary Griggs Burke Center for Freshwater Innovation and the author of The Great Lakes Water Wars, the definitive work on the Great Lakes water diversion controversy.  RSVP by April 30th (must be 21 or older); remote participation via webinar is also available.

The Healing Our Waters - Great Lakes Coalition’s annual Great Lakes Restoration Conference attracts more than 300 people from across the region to discuss cross-cutting and cutting edge Great Lakes issues. This year’s conference is now scheduled to be held at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, Michigan, May 8-9, 2019.

The North Central Region Water Network's May edition of The Current Webinar Series will focus on green stormwater infrastructure. This month’s webinar will discuss green stormwater infrastructure and the various benefits it provides beyond hydrology and overview examples of green infrastructure at work within the region.

Join the International Joint Commission’s Great Lakes Water Quality Board for a public event, “Coming Together for the Great Lakes,” in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Discuss long-term strategies to restore the vitality of Green Bay and Lake Michigan; voice your opinions on challenges and issues in your local communities related to the Great Lakes water quality.

The 64th Annual Meeting of the Great Lakes Fishery Commission takes place on May 29th and 30th, 2019 at the Crowne Plaza Downtown Detroit Riverfront in Detroit, Michigan. The Great Lakes Fishery Commission was established in 1955 by the Canadian/U.S. Convention on Great Lakes Fisheries.

Celebrate Water Door County is proud to present the 2019 Water Summit. A year of celebration and education will culminate with a three day summit June 4-6, 2019. The summit is sponsored by Healthy Water Door County, a fund of the Door County Community Foundation. This three-day summit will be held at the Landmark Resort in Egg Harbor, featuring a keynote speaker, educational sessions, and field trips.

The Dredging Summit & Expo ’19 is a technical conference organized by the Western Dredging Association (WEDA) to promote the exchange of knowledge in fields related to dredging, navigation, marine engineering and construction. It will provide a forum for improvement of communications, technology transfer, and cooperation among associations & societies, while emphasizing the importance of understanding and development of solutions for problems related to the protection and enhancement of the marine environment.

Join the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative Conference in the City of Sheboygan, the Spirit on the Lake, for the 2019 Annual Conference. This year’s theme is Living Blue: Transforming Waterfronts.

Green Marine is heading back to the Great Lakes for its 12th annual GreenTech conference. GreenTech 2019 will take place at the Cleveland Westin Downtown Hotel from June 5-7, 2019. The conference will discuss issues directly related to Green Marine environmental certification’s performance indicators, such as greenhouse gas emissions, and community relations/impacts.

Fellow researchers from around the world will gather in Brockport, New York, on the shores of the Erie Canal for IAGLR's 62nd annual Conference on Great Lakes Research. Hosted by The College at Brockport, State University of New York, the conference will feature four days of scientific sessions and speakers focusing on our theme Large Lakes Research: Connecting People and Ideas.

As part of its “Margaret A. Davidson Coastal Career Development Program,” The Coastal Society is organizing a full-day workshop to provide valuable skills and information to the next generation of coastal practitioners, particularly college students and early-career coastal professionals.

Kris Erickson, Principal Scientist and Project Manager with Ecology and Environment, Inc.; Kristen Hebebrand, Project Manager with Chagrin River Watershed Partners, Inc.; and Matt Barnes, Assistant Professor with Texas Tech University’s Department of Natural Resources Management, will present on the Great Lakes Hydrilla Risk Assessment.

The Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Governors and Premiers will be hosting their 2019 Leadership Summit in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from June 14-16, 2019. This is an invitation-only event.

The Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement calls for the U.S. and Canada to convene the Great Lakes Public Forum once every three years to discuss the state of the lakes and progress made under the Agreement, and to provide an opportunity for public input. We are pleased to announce that the next Great Lakes Public Forum will be held in Milwaukee, WI at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center Hotel on June 17-19, 2019.
