Habitat Restoration Database: Brandenburg Park
NOAA-GLC Regional Habitat Restoration PartnershipBrandenburg Park Habitat Restoration Database
The Brandenburg Park shoreline restoration project repaired and naturalized a damaged, hardened shoreline on Lake St. Clair and created nearshore fish habitat. The following metrics were collected during pre- and post-monitoring of the project sites:
Vegetation Data: Vegetation sampling of submergent, emergent, and upland flora were taken to assess vegetation abundance. A floristic quality assessment was performed to calculate the coefficient of conservatism to determine how significant a plant community is relative to pre-settlement conditions.
Fish Data: As assessment of fish populations was conducted using electroshocking, fyke, and seine nets.
Funding
Just under $6 million was been awarded to this project by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI). The GLRI is a federal program designed to protect and restore the largest system of fresh surface water in the world — the Great Lakes. The project funding was provided via the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) through a Regional Partnership with the Great Lakes Commission.
